Netflix has released the trailer for the third and final season of The Empress. The Austrian period drama will close with six episodes on 12 November, Deadline reported.

The trailer centres on Elisabeth, Empress of Austria, known as Sisi. She is struggling with her role and her desires. Devrim Lingnau Islamoğlu plays Sisi opposite Philip Froissant as Emperor Franz.

For new viewers, the set-up is simple. The Empress is a German-language series about a Bavarian princess who becomes the Austrian empress. Netflix describes the premise as a rebellious Elisabeth falling for Emperor Franz and becoming his bride, then entering a world of tension and intrigue at the Viennese court.

Season 3 picks up that pressure. Elisabeth must learn who she can trust. She must also face the price of being empress and a symbol of hope for an entire nation, according to Netflix production notes.

The new season adds Dejan Bućin as Count Andrássy, leader of the Hungarian revolution. Season 2, which debuted in 2024, continued the love story between Franz Joseph and Sisi. That season arrived on Netflix on 22 November, Netflix Tudum said at the time.

Behind the camera, Katharina Eyssen serves as showrunner, meaning the lead writer-producer in charge of the season. Sommerhaus Serien is producing. Florian Cossen and Julia Langhof direct. Filming took place in Bavaria, the Czech Republic and Spain.

The series has a clear track record. Season 1 stayed in Netflix’s global Top 10 for non-English shows, the weekly most-watched list, for five straight weeks in 2022. Season 2 entered the Top 10 in 84 countries in 2024. The first two seasons have amassed over 65 million streams since July 2023.

For fans, this means six episodes to finish the story. Sisi and Franz return one last time in November.
