Prince: Show Dog Inherits Estate Ahead of London World Premiere

An award-winning Afghan hound inherits a mansion in Prince. The Uruguayan-Argentine co-production, a film made with backing from both countries, will have its world premiere, its very first public screening, on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the 70th BFI London Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The story is set in Punta del Este amid fading seaside luxury. Jaime, played by Roberto Suárez, is a former lover now working as live-in butler to wealthy Isabel, played by Maitina De Marco. Isabel dies unexpectedly in her swimming pool. Her will leaves her entire luxury estate to Prince, her show dog, with Jaime appointed as guardian. Human relatives can only claim the property once the dog dies, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Suárez stars alongside De Marco and Esteban Bigliardi. What follows is a ruthless custody battle over the dog, as relatives circle the inheritance. The film explores family ties and avarice, or extreme greed for wealth and possessions, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Prince is the solo feature debut for Uruguayan director and screenwriter Federico Borgia, meaning his first film made alone behind the camera. He previously co-directed Clever (2015) and The Champion of the World (2019) with Guillermo Madeiro.
The festival website calls Prince a "kitsch comedy about avarice and love." Kitsch here means bright, sentimental style played for laughs. Listings also describe it as a dark, original and funny take on domestic life, BFI notes.
Paris-based Alpha Violet is handling sales for the film. It acquired international sales rights ahead of the London premiere, a deal that puts one company in charge of licensing the film to distributors in different countries, Variety reported. For a small co-production, a festival launch like London is often the shop window for those deals.
The 70th BFI London Film Festival runs from Wednesday 7 October to Sunday 18 October 2026, according to the BFI. This year's edition includes 109 works by female film-makers, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Tickets for Prince start from £10, festival listings show.
What makes this stand out is simple. A dog cannot spend a fortune. Everyone around him wants to. The fight is over who looks after him, and who gets the house.
