Resident Evil Requiem DLC will continue Oswell Spencer's story, writer reveals

Oswell E. Spencer is back at the centre of Resident Evil.
Writer Haris Orkin has revealed that the coming story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem will continue the story of Spencer, the Umbrella co-founder who has loomed over the series since the start. It is the clearest detail yet about Capcom's post-launch plans for the game, Video Games Chronicle reported on 7 October 2026.
Orkin, the credited writer on Requiem, made the remarks while speaking at Meadowlark Comic Con. He said the main game gives Spencer a defined arc, and the downloadable content, an extra story episode released separately after launch, carries it on. "We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem, you kind of understand that more, and then in the DLC you'll understand it even further."
For anyone new to the series, a quick catch-up helps. Resident Evil is a long-running survival horror series about virus outbreaks and the people caught in them. Spencer co-founded the Umbrella Corporation, the fictional pharmaceutical company behind those viruses. He has been a key antagonist since the original game, pulling strings from boardrooms and laboratories rather than chasing players down corridors.
Capcom has confirmed it is working on a major story expansion for Requiem. Director Koshi Nakanishi described the project in simple terms: "In this story, we will dive deeper into the world of Requiem." The company has not yet set out the length, title or story details of the expansion.
For fans, this means Requiem is looking backwards as well as forwards. Spencer died long ago in the series timeline, but his research, his mansions and his company keep resurfacing in files, flashbacks and new infections. An arc that explains him more fully would fill in a gap that has been open for almost 30 years.
There is also talk of a familiar location returning. A separate report has pointed to Spencer Mansion, the isolated estate from the first game, as a possible setting for the expansion, Wccftech reported. That detail has not been confirmed by Capcom or Orkin, so it remains a rumour for now.
For the moment, the confirmed news is narrow but telling. Requiem will give Spencer more room in the main story. Then the DLC will give him more still.
