Mesa Public Library will start issuing a limited-edition Jimmy Eat World library card on Saturday, Oct. 10.

The card is a collaboration with the Mesa-formed rock band and forms part of the library's 120th birthday celebrations, according to the library's announcement titled "Special Edition MPL x Jimmy Eat World Library Card" Mesa Public Library. Anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Maricopa County can get one, Pitchfork reported.

The first cards will be handed out at the library's 120th Celebration at the Main Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 10. People who already hold a library card can swap it for the new version.

The design nods to the band's day job. It is made to look like a vintage concert ticket, AZ Family reported.

The link is local. The members of Jimmy Eat World grew up in Mesa, Arizona. The library's calendar also lists a Jimmy Eat World event on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. at Dobson.

As part of the project, the band shared book recommendations. The list includes For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway, Skink by Carl Hiaasen, The Vintage Book of Contemporary Short Stories edited by Tobias Wolff, and The Wager by David Grann.

The collaboration follows a busy summer for the band. In June, Jimmy Eat World set out on a North American tour honouring the 25th anniversary of the album Bleed American.

For fans, this means a practical souvenir. It works as a library card and reads as a piece of hometown memorabilia at the same time.
