Prateek Vats has lined up heavyweight support for his second feature, with Payal Kapadia and Anurag Kashyap joining as executive producers and Kavita Gupta's U.S.-based Cineroost boarding as producer on Chronicles of a Confession, as reported by Variety.

An executive producer is a senior credit often linked to finance or creative backing. Here, Kapadia and Kashyap take that role while Gupta's company steps in to produce.

The cameras roll soon. Shooting was set to begin in early November, according to the same report.

The story centres on a Kashmiri shawl seller who confesses to a crime he did not commit. That single admission drives the film.

The script comes from Vidur Nauriyal, Vats and Shubham. It was picked for the Asian Cinema Fund's script development strand at the Busan International Film Festival, a programme that supports projects before production.

The producing team spans three countries. Ranjan Singh of Flip Films produces alongside Action Filmz in Dubai, Etched Films in India and Khan & Kumar Productions, as reported by Variety.

Cineroost will also handle global representation and work the U.S. market for the film, essentially selling distribution rights to buyers territory by territory, and help push it into production. It is the company's next feature after Vir Das's Baara Number.

Vats made his debut with Eeb Allay Ooo!, which had its world premiere at the Pingyao Film Festival in 2019 and won the Golden Gateway award at the Mumbai Film Festival that year.

What makes this stand out is the mix of names around a new director. Kapadia, Kashyap and Gupta each bring festival links and production experience, while Vats returns with his first feature since his 2019 debut.
