Bellocchio's Falcon boards international sales during Toronto shoot

Rai Cinema International Distribution will handle international sales on Falcon, the new financial thriller from director Marco Bellocchio, while the film is shooting in Toronto, according to Deadline.
The picture is inspired by the life of Sergio Marchionne, the late Fiat-Chrysler executive. In market language, handling sales means offering the right to release the film to distributors territory by territory.
Pierfrancesco Favino plays Marchionne. Louis Garrel plays John Elkann. The cast also includes Benedetta Cimatti and Barbara Ronchi, with Valeria Bruni Tedeschi participating, as reported by Deadline.
For a general viewer, those two central roles set the shape of the story. One is the car-industry chief executive. The other is Elkann, the figure opposite him in that corporate world. The announcement names the actors and their parts without describing scenes or plot twists.
The title has a direct explanation. Falcon refers to the Falcon business jet Marchionne used to travel back and forth from Turin, Deadline reported. It is a short name with a concrete link to its subject. It points to movement, work and a life organised around travel.
Behind the camera, the writing credits are shared. Bellocchio co-wrote the screenplay with Ludovica Rampoldi, Andrea Di Stefano and Stefano Rulli, with the participation of Oliviero Del Papa. That kind of shared credit is common on films drawn from real lives, where research and structure pass through several hands.
The film is produced by Kavac Film and Rai Cinema, with Emotion Network in collaboration with STLA Europe. Producers organise the finance and the physical shoot. Collaborators of this kind usually provide practical support tied to locations, vehicles or company history.
That shoot includes a Canadian leg. The production filmed for two weeks in September in Toronto and Niagara Falls. The sales launch was announced on 8 October while work in Toronto was under way.
In Italy, Falcon will be released by 01 Distribution. No release date was announced. International buyers outside Italy will deal through Rai Cinema International Distribution.
What makes this stand out for a casual reader is the timing. A sales company often comes aboard while cameras are still rolling, so distributors can follow a live production rather than a finished film. Here that moment arrived during the Toronto shoot, with lead casting, writers, producers and the Italian distributor already in place.
