UKTV has bought the first two series of a new Maigret reboot for its U streaming service and U&Drama channel.

The deal with distributor Banijay Rights was announced on 8 October 2026. It is an acquisition, meaning UKTV has licensed the finished programmes to broadcast and stream rather than ordering them itself. UKTV

The series centres on Parisian Chief Inspector Jules Maigret, played by Benjamin Wainwright. He is joined by Blake Harrison as Joseph Torrence and Stefanie Martini as Madame Louise Maigret. Deadline

It is a PBS Masterpiece adaptation of the detective novels by Georges Simenon. Masterpiece is the long-running drama strand on US public television. This version reframes Maigret as an unconventional young detective with something to prove, according to distributor Banijay.

The show was produced by Playground in association with Banijay Rights. Playground made the series as a co-production for Masterpiece, in association with Banijay Rights, Windhover Films and Georges Simenon Limited.

The Maigret purchase sits inside a much larger 114-hour programming package between UKTV, which is owned by BBC Studios, and Banijay Rights. The wider deal also brings the second series of crime drama A Remarkable Place to Die and the film Agatha & The Midnight Murders to UKTV.

Unscripted titles are included too. They are Ambulance series 12 and 13, Saving Lives at Sea series 9 and 10, Lost and Found in the Lakes, and Tribe with Bruce Parry.

For viewers, this means both runs of the reboot will live in one place in the UK. U is UKTV's free streaming service. U&Drama is its linear television channel, meaning a scheduled channel that viewers tune into at set times.

No broadcast date has been announced. The deal covers rights for U and U&Drama, with Banijay Rights handling international distribution of the series.
