Sony Pictures has bought This Land Is Our Land, an elevated thriller written on spec by Casey Giltner, Deadline reported on 8 October 2026. A spec is a screenplay written without a studio order, then offered to buyers around Hollywood. The sale hands the project to one of the major studios for development towards a possible theatre release. For a writer, that kind of sale is a direct route from desk to studio slate.

Plot details are being kept under wraps. That is normal at this stage. Studios often confirm a purchase before a director or cast is attached.

Andrew Form will produce alongside Lawdie Pahlavan, according to Deadline. A producer guides a film from script to screen, helping hire the director and key crew and managing budget and schedule. Form is best recognised for his work on the A Quiet Place franchise.

Elevated is industry shorthand. It points to a thriller or horror story driven by character and ideas, not only by shocks. The tag describes tone rather than plot. In this case the plot is still secret.

Giltner has built credits in horror writing, as noted by Deadline. His holiday horror script On The First Day of Christmas made the 2021 Blood List, an annual survey that flags unproduced horror screenplays for producers and executives. Such lists can help newer writers secure meetings and paid assignments. They act as a shop window for material that has not yet been filmed.

He is also co-writer on Speak, a horror thriller about a ventriloquist dummy starring Josh Duhamel. The premise draws on an old stage trick. A wooden figure that seems to speak. His debut novel is Home School, a horror-thriller in print, which shows work on both page and screen.

Giltner is represented by Independent Artist Group, Zero Gravity Management and Yorn, Levine, Barnes. That line-up covers agency, management and legal advice, the usual team behind a working screenwriter. Agencies find jobs, managers shape careers and lawyers handle contracts.

What makes this stand out is simple. A major studio has backed a new thriller idea with horror-trained producers already in place. Development comes next, with a search for a director and cast before any production date or release slot is set. No such attachments have been announced.
