Mariska Hargitay says Taylor Swift reported for duty on the Law & Order: SVU set with homemade cookies and left with high marks for acting.

Hargitay spoke to People for a story published Oct. 7 about Swift joining the SVU universe, as reported by Billboard. The praise covered two jobs. One was in front of the camera. The other was in the kitchen.

Swift brought homemade sourdough chocolate chip cookies for the cast and crew. Hargitay said they might have been the best cookies she had ever had and called them extraordinary.

She was just as warm about Swift the co-star. She called Swift such a good actor, charming, charismatic and such a pro. Having her on set, she said, was a thrill for the cast and the entire crew.

The appearance came as a pre-filmed spoof. Swift played rookie Det. Swift during Hargitay's debut hosting stint at the 2026 Emmys, the 78th edition of the awards. Swift was not at the ceremony in person aside from the cameo.

The sketch leaned into their off-screen connection. Billboard describes Hargitay as Swift's longtime friend, and Emmys executive producer Dionne Harmon has described the pair as genuine friends.

It also leaned into SVU lore. Hargitay has played Capt. Olivia Benson going into 28 seasons. One of Swift's favourite cats is named after that character, and the cat named Olivia Benson appeared alongside Hargitay in the Emmys spoof, according to Billboard.

The Television Academy released the piece as "SVU Skit: 78th Emmys," describing it as Swift joining Hargitay for a special episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The skit ended with a football explanation for Swift's absence. It concluded she would be busy supporting Travis Kelce at the Kansas City Chiefs game on the night of the ceremony.

It also doubled as a music teaser. The sketch pointed viewers to The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, a deluxe edition of Swift's 2025 album released at the end of September with four new tracks including Patient Zero, Pink Clouding, Babylon and Cleveland!

What makes this stand out is how little of it stayed fictional. A spoof detective, a real cat namesake and a batch of sourdough cookies all made the trip from screen to set.
