Lanterns Finale Hits Series High With 10.5 Million Viewers

HBO's Lanterns ended its first season with its biggest audience yet. The finale drew 10.5 million global viewers in its first three days, according to figures reported by Deadline.
The episode debuted on 4 October. In the United States it drew 7.2 million viewers. Globally it was up 13% on the series premiere when both are measured in L3, meaning live viewing plus three days of catch-up.
That climb matters because the opener was already large. Lanterns launched in August with 9.3 million global cross-platform viewers in its first three days, meaning cable and streaming counted together. In the US, the premiere drew 6.6 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max in the same window.
Across the season, Lanterns is averaging 19.3 million global viewers. That puts it among the top five HBO series launches in platform history. The premiere episode itself is now approaching 30 million viewers as catch-up viewing continues.
The audience kept building. Episode 7 drew 7 million US viewers in its first three days, as reported by Variety. The finale then pushed past that to 7.2 million in the US. A separate report carried by Yahoo put the Season 1 US average at more than 12 million viewers per episode.
The opening also topped the opening episodes of IT: Welcome to Derry, The Penguin and True Detective: Night Country. Those three series later averaged 27.1 million, 19.8 million and 17.5 million global viewers respectively.
Lanterns comes from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. It was co-created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart alongside Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.
What makes this stand out is the direction of travel. The finale beat the premiere. From 9.3 million to 10.5 million globally in three-day viewing, the series grew.
