Sergio Camello has seven goals in seven league games for Rayo Vallecano.

As of 8 Oct. 2026, only Barcelona's Raphinha had scored more among players in Europe's top five leagues — England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France, The Guardian reported. For a striker whose previous three seasons in Spain's top flight brought five, three and six goals, it is a stunning start.

Camello plays as a striker for Rayo in La Liga, Spain's top division. His main job is simple: score. He is also an Olympic gold medallist, and he has a twin brother named Gonzalo.

The run has come quickly. Camello has made six starts and one substitute appearance this season, with 19 shots and one assist in the league, according to ESPN data. One of those goals came against Barcelona in August 2026.

Rayo's story is unusual. Camello first joined the club for the 2022-23 season on loan from Atlético de Madrid, after earlier spells with Atlético and CD Mirandés. He scored his first LaLiga goal for Rayo in a 2-1 win over Elche in Vallecas. Now Beñat San José is the club's new coach.

Off the pitch, Rayo have had to move. Their home matches were shifted to Leganés after Madrid council declared their Estadio de Vallecas unsafe and unfit for purpose. Rayo will play their first home game of the season at Leganés' stadium, with Leganés now competing in Spain's second tier in 2026-27, Yahoo Sports reported.

Camello has spoken with clear affection for his surroundings. He once described Rayo as "the last team from another time, special for what they fight for and what they fight against."

What makes this stand out is the contrast. Rayo are a small, community-driven club dealing with an exile from their own ground. Their No. 9 is outscoring almost everyone in Europe. Seven games is early. The mood around Vallecas will be lifting anyway.
