Anne Hathaway has called Tom Cruise's Digger "brilliant" and given it five stars in her first review on Letterboxd, the social app where film fans log, rate and discuss what they watch, as reported by Deadline on 8 October 2026.

Her review appeared on 7 October on her verified Letterboxd page, which is listed at Letterboxd. She gave the film full marks. Five stars is the top score on the site.

In the note, Hathaway described Digger as smart, trippy, aggressive, funny and ambitious. She added a personal rating of 10/10 for herself. The words are hers, quoted in the Deadline report.

She finished with a direct invitation to other viewers. Hathaway wrote that the film is worth making the time to see and decide for yourself what you make of it. It is a short review. It leaves room for disagreement.

What makes this stand out is the setting she chose. Letterboxd is a fan-led space, built around short reviews and star ratings, rather than a press interview or a red carpet line. To post her first review there gives the note a different weight. Other members can log the same title, add their own stars and answer back.

Digger is a satirical comedy, a story that uses humour and exaggeration to poke at real life, written and directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Cruise produced the picture, which means he helped bring it to the screen as well as lead it, and stars as Digger Rockwell. Rockwell is an ageing oil magnate whose drilling sets off an ecological disaster.

The film opened in theatres with 8 million US dollars from domestic cinemas, meaning the United States and Canada, and 20 million US dollars worldwide. Opening-night audiences gave it a C+ CinemaScore, a grade drawn from polls of people as they leave first screenings. Cruise has said he is proud of Digger despite the lacklustre ticket sales.

For general viewers, the box office shorthand is simple. Domestic counts tickets in the United States and Canada. Global adds the rest of the world. A C+ suggests many early buyers left unsure, even as a fellow leading actor puts the film at the very top.

For fans, this means a clear vote of confidence from one star to another. Hathaway did not write at length. She did not need to. Five stars, and the word brilliant, said it all.
