Rodrigo Santoro and Camila Pitanga are set to star in “Garota da Urca” (“Girl From Urca”), with Marcelo Gomes directing, as reported by Variety on 8 October 2026. The film is a romantic comedy built around a couple looking hard at middle age. It puts two well-known Brazilian actors together at the centre of the story.

Gomes will lead the production as director, the person who guides performance and shapes the film on set and in the edit. His appointment was part of the same announcement. The pairing of cast and director sets the core creative team.

The script is confirmed to come from Luciana Paes and Leonardo Moreira, according to Variety. They hold the writing credits, which means dialogue, scenes and structure sit with them. A confirmed script credit gives a project a firm base. It tells buyers, crews and schedules that the story is in place.

The film is a co-production between Matizar Filmes and Misti Filmes. In plain terms, the two companies will make it together. They share the costs, the work and the decisions that come with a feature. That kind of partnership is common outside the big studio system, where pooling resources can get a film made.

The story follows a married couple approaching their 50s. They are dealing with the existential questions of middle age, about identity, time and what matters now. The film treats that turning point as both personal and shared, something husband and wife meet together rather than alone.

It is being made as a romantic comedy, a love story told with humour. That description was used by O Globo in December 2025. The label matters for audiences. It signals laughter alongside romance, not a heavy drama.

For many viewers, the casting will feel familiar. Pitanga and Santoro previously played a romantic pair in “Mulheres Apaixonadas”, as noted by O Globo. That was an earlier chapter in their screen histories. They now return as a couple at a very different stage of life.

What makes this stand out is the age of the characters. Love stories about people nearing 50 still get less room on screen. Here, that stage of life is the starting point for the comedy and the romance.
