Singapore festival to close with Asian premiere of Vintage Violence

The Singapore International Film Festival will close its 37th edition on Nov. 1 with “Vintage Violence,” in what will be the film’s Asian premiere at Capitol Theatre, Variety reported.
The closer is directed by Eugene Kotlyarenko and stars Cole Sprouse and Mizuhara Kiko, according to the same report. Sprouse plays Carter, an urban explorer who finds a haul of rare denim in a mineshaft, while Mizuhara plays Izumi, Yahoo reported.
It is a return to a format the festival has not used for more than a decade. Singapore last staged a stand-alone festival closing in 2014, Variety reported. “Vintage Violence” arrives in Singapore after bowing in Midnight Madness, the late-night genre slot, at the Toronto Film Festival.
The stars are coming too. Kotlyarenko, Sprouse and Mizuhara will attend the festival in person. They will also appear together at an “In Conversation With” session at the National Museum of Singapore on Oct. 31, the day before the closing screening.
The festival opens on Oct. 21 with Hur Jin-ho’s “The Assassin(s).” The 37th edition runs from Oct. 21 to Nov. 1, 2026, SGIFF stated.
The talk programme around the two bookend titles is busy. The “In Conversation With” strand features Aamir Khan, Peter Chan and Shim Eun-kyung on Oct. 22, Koreeda Hirokazu on Oct. 24 and Anthony Wong on Oct. 29, Variety reported.
The wider line-up spans more than 100 films from more than 50 countries. It includes an Asian Feature Film Competition with 10 works by Asian directors and a Southeast Asian Short Film Competition with 24 films across five programmes, alongside Singapore Panorama with 16 shorts across three programmes, SGIFF stated. Other strands include Horizon with 17 international festival titles, Foreground with 10 films, Landmark with restorations of seven international classics, Standpoint with seven films, Undercurrent with 11 moving-image works and screen-based performances, and Junior Explorers with three films.
For fans, this means a rare chance to see the closing-night cast and crew up close before the final curtain. Tickets, passes and Rush Queue access are handled through SGIFF.com, where buyers need to register for an account. Early bird access was set for 12pm on Sept. 25, 2026, with public sales from 12pm on Sept. 28, 2026.
