Shuhei Matsumoto, the producer leading Street Fighter 6, believed Capcom's fighting series could fade within a decade unless it changed.

"If we left it as it was, the IP would likely die in 10 years," he said. The account appeared in an article titled 'Street Fighter 6 Producer Reveals How He Helped Save Capcom's Iconic Fighting Game Franchise From Dying', published on 8 October 2026. IGN

The IP is industry shorthand for the characters, titles and rights a company owns. Matsumoto is the main producer for Street Fighter 6 and the Capcom Fighting Collection series, a role that oversees planning and delivery across the development team. His path was different. Matsumoto spent five years in sales at a trading company specialised in screws before joining Capcom in 2012. He then worked in the company's human resources development support office, which handles training and staff development. He became a Street Fighter development producer in 2016.

Those career details were laid out in a YouTube interview published on 5 October 2026, where Matsumoto appeared as guest and Karin Ohira appeared as MC. FUBI interview Ohira previously worked in the editorial departments of GINZA Web and BRUTUS Web before joining an IT company in 2022. The video was produced by FUBI.

The two appearances give a fuller picture of the person behind the job. One sets out the warning about the series and the work to steady it. The other traces how a salesman turned HR support staffer moved into fighting games.

What makes this stand out is the route to the top seat. Few producers of long-running series arrive from outside design or programming. For viewers, that background gives the ten-year warning extra weight.
