Princess Kate described Prince Louis as "the little one" while chatting to schoolchildren in Belfast on Friday.

"I have George and Charlotte, and the little one is called Louis," she said. The remark came during a joint visit to the city with Prince William, as reported by Hello! Magazine.

The couple started the day at The Commons in South Belfast. The project is turning a local church on Ormeau Road into a community space. They met pupils and local groups there, and the Belfast chat kept it to first names only.

The joint engagement focused on Homewards, Prince William's initiative to prevent and end homelessness across the UK. William and Kate spoke to schoolchildren about the work. The theme shaped much of the day's conversation.

William and Kate have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Louis, the youngest, has the full name Louis Arthur Charles. Kate has said in the past that choosing names for all three came with "big pressure".

It is not the first nickname to escape the school run. Louis has also been called "Lou Lou" and "Lou Bug" in the past. Kate has called Charlotte "Lottie" and, on one outing, "Poppet". George has been nicknamed "PG Tips" or "Tips", a play on PG for Prince George and the tea brand.

Kate had a nickname of her own growing up. She was called "Squeak", inspired by her class guinea pig. She was once heard urging Louis on with the words, "Lou-bugs, you lead the way."

Kate's easy manner with children is part of why such moments get noticed. She has been called "the Children's Princess" for her unscripted reactions on outings with young people, as noted by People. Small exchanges often draw the biggest smiles.

What makes this stand out is how ordinary it sounds. No full title. Just family language. For fans, that is the appeal — a small, unscripted moment inside a formal visit. It is another entry in a household list that sounds like any family.
