Black Bear will release Honeymoon / Funeral in cinemas in the United States and Canada after buying its domestic rights, Deadline reported on 9 October 2026.

The film is a romantic comedy from MRC. Domestic, in industry terms, means the United States and Canada. A domestic deal decides who puts the film into cinemas there and organises its marketing.

The cast is led by Rebecca Ferguson, Greta Lee and Carrie Coon. No character details have been made public. The three names are the full line-up announced so far.

The story starts in the air. Two women meet on a flight from Los Angeles to London and then spend the week together. That is the complete plot outline released to date. It leaves open how the honeymoon and the funeral of the title fit in.

Nahnatchka Khan directed the film from a script by Julia Bicknell, according to Deadline. The director guides the performances and the look of the film. The writer creates the story, the characters and the dialogue.

Khan also produced the film with Jennifer Carreras for Fierce Baby. A producer oversees the project from development through delivery. Here, the two producers worked under MRC, which financed and organised the production.

FilmNation Entertainment acted as the worldwide sales agent. That is the company that offers a film to distributors territory by territory around the world. It is a standard arrangement for independent production. One company funds and supervises the shoot. Other companies then buy the right to release the finished film in their own markets.

Filming wrapped in September. Wrap means the shoot has finished and the production moves into post-production, where the picture is edited, sound is mixed and music is added. The sale to Black Bear followed within weeks.

For cinema-goers, this means the path is now clearer. A finished shoot plus a domestic distributor gives the film its route to screens in the United States and Canada. The next details to come will be a release date and a trailer.
