Bob Mackie died of head injury after fall, death certificate shows

Fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie died from bleeding around the brain and a blow to the head after a fall at home, his death certificate shows.
The certificate lists the immediate cause of death as subarachnoid haemorrhage and blunt head trauma, meaning bleeding in the space around the brain caused by an injury. The details were obtained by US magazine and reported by Deadline on 10 October.
Mackie fell and was injured on 11 September at the home of longtime design director Joseph McFate. He had been staying in the guest house there. He was 87 at the time, and a healthcare professional was with him when he fell.
He had pneumonia both before and after the fall, according to the report. That illness had first been given as the cause. Shortly after his death, Mackie's representative told People magazine that he had passed away from pneumonia, as reported by Yahoo.
Mackie died at 10.40 a.m. on 14 September at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California, according to US Magazine. He was cremated on 17 September and his remains were scattered at sea off San Diego County, California.
Reuters reported at the time that the fashion designer had died aged 87. Its obituary did not state a cause of death.
Tributes followed from Cher and Carol Burnett, two of the stars most closely linked with his work. Mackie dated fellow designer Ray Aghayan from 1963 until Aghayan's death in 2011.
