Tomi Adeyemi has cancelled her New York Comic Con panel to promote her new book “The Siren.” The session was listed for Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. ET at the Javits Center in New York, according to Variety.

The decision was made last month. The panel was then quietly removed from the convention schedule, with no public notice from Adeyemi or ReedPop, the organiser of the convention, before the planned Saturday slot, Variety reported.

The appearance had been in the works for a year. New York Comic Con first billed the bestselling fantasy author last October and put tickets on sale, according to New York Comic Con on Facebook. At the time, the convention said panel programming and book signing details would be shared at a later date, according to New York Comic Con on X.

Representatives for Adeyemi, her agency CAA and publisher Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group did not immediately respond to comment on Saturday, according to Variety. New York Comic Con runs Oct. 8 to Oct. 11 at the Javits Center at 429 11th Ave in New York City, according to New York Comic Con.

The empty slot comes ahead of the theatre release of “Children of Blood and Bone” on Jan. 15. The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and adapts Adeyemi’s fantasy novel, according to Variety. Adeyemi has described the creative process on the adaptation as “the worst thing I have ever had to live through.”

She previously recalled leaving the set of “Children of Blood and Bone” sobbing, according to TheGrio. The film is a screen version of her book, made with a director in charge of the shoot and a studio behind the release.

Her new book moves to different ground. “The Siren” is set on a college campus, according to NPR, and takes place in the real world, according to KVPR. That is a shift from the invented fantasy world that made her name.

For fans, this means no scheduled chance to hear Adeyemi discuss “The Siren” at this year’s convention. The Saturday afternoon time remains without its advertised author, and no replacement session has been announced.
