Shane Gillis hosts SNL for third time after 2019 firing

Shane Gillis hosted Saturday Night Live for the third time on 10 October 2026, seven years after the show hired him and then fired him before he ever joined the cast.
The 38-year-old comedian was paired with musical guest Rosalía, according to NBC's listing for the show. Listings published ahead of the broadcast confirmed the 10 October date Yahoo, while the third hosting stint was reported by Variety.
Gillis was first announced as a new SNL cast member in September 2019, alongside Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang. He was fired five days later after clips from his podcast resurfaced in which he mocked Asians and used anti-gay slurs.
Yang went on to become the first cast member of full Asian descent on SNL. He was also the third openly gay male cast member in the programme's history.
SNL creator Lorne Michaels later said NBC executives forced the firing against his wishes. Michaels then offered Gillis the role of Donald Trump for SNL's 50th season, which Gillis turned down.
Since the firing, Gillis has built a separate screen career. He created and starred in the Netflix series Tires. He also has a role in the upcoming biopic Madden.
His return to SNL has been gradual. He previously hosted on 24 February 2024 and on 1 March 2025, according to NBC listings.
The monologue on 10 October centred on weight, gyms and family. Gillis said he needs to lose weight and talked about being miserable while hiking.
He then joked about going to a public gym in New York as a fat guy and feeling judged by muscular gay men. He told the audience he did not know women "just dress like whores now" at the gym, a line that prompted groans in the studio.
He referred to his two sisters as his "two big, fat-bitch sisters" who called him "bitch hips". He closed that run of jokes by saying he has balded directly into an Adolf Hitler haircut.
"You’re either gay or you’re Hitler," he said.
What makes this stand out is the timeline. The same performer once removed after five days is now a repeat host invited back three times.
