Globo sells Blood Red – Under the Moonlight to BBC for iPlayer and BBC Three

A Brazilian fantasy series is heading to British screens. Globo has sold Blood Red – Under the Moonlight to the BBC, which will show it on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.
Variety reported the deal on 11 October as the headline announcement for Globo’s showcase on that Sunday evening at Mipcom, the international television market in Cannes where broadcasters and streamers buy and sell shows.
The sale was licensed, meaning the BBC has bought the rights to show the series in the UK. It is the first time a Globoplay Original, a series made for Globo’s own streaming service, has been licensed to the BBC. That is a first.
Blood Red – Under the Moonlight is described as a fantasy-adventure-thriller and a coming-of-age story told in half-hour episodes. It was created and written by Claudia Sardinha and Rosane Swartman. The story is set and shot in south-east Minas Gerais, a mountainous inland region of Brazil.
What makes this stand out is the route. Brazilian drama has long travelled through format remakes and daytime slots. Here a Portuguese-language original moves straight into a youth-facing BBC home.
The BBC deal sits inside a wider Mipcom push from Globo. The company’s line-up also includes the dramatic comedy Single Together alongside Blood Red – Under the Moonlight, according to SenalNews. The series had already been positioned as a priority title, with Globo presenting it among its major highlights on the main stage at Rio2C 2026 in May.
Globo is also in line for an honour in Cannes. The company will receive the 2026 Mipcom Recognition for SDG Impact award, presented in partnership with the United Nations, which recognises work linked to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
No transmission date has been announced. For viewers, the next step is simple. The show will land on iPlayer and BBC Three.
