Sacha Baron Cohen leads 300 Ali Gs through London ahead of new film

Three hundred Ali Gs took over central London on Sunday.
Sacha Baron Cohen led the crowd through the city ahead of the release of Ali G: Who Iz I?, with fans dressed in the character's trademark tracksuits, bucket hats and wraparound sunglasses, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Cohen dressed for the part. He wore a yellow "Ali G" hoodie and matching trousers for the daytime tour. The route moved by double-decker bus and by boat, with a party on the Thames, photo stops near Big Ben and Marble Arch, and hamburgers at McDonald's in Leicester Square.
It finished at Cineworld Leicester Square. There, Cohen hosted an Ali G Lookalike Competition and picked a winner from the costumed crowd. The central London gathering also included a preview of the new film, according to MyLondon.
The film itself is a mockumentary, meaning a fictional story shot in the style of a documentary, and it brings back the Ali G character. It stars Cohen and is his first feature as a director.
Amazon MGM Studios will put Ali G: Who Iz I? into theatres on Oct. 23 for one week. After that short cinema window, it will stream on Prime Video.
The story follows Ali G after he learns his girlfriend is eight months pregnant. He travels to America to get ready for the baby's arrival.
For fans, this means a long wait is over. Ali G began on Da Ali G Show, which started in Britain in 2000 and later aired on HBO. The character last reached the big screen in 2002 in Ali G Indahouse, directed by Mark Mylod.
The revival has also met some opposition. A British media-monitoring group has urged cinema chains around the world not to screen the new film, according to The Washington Times. That call sits apart from the release plan announced by Amazon MGM Studios.
