Boy, 13, Charged With Murder After Fatal Stabbing in Mount Druitt

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of a 36-year-old man in Mount Druitt in Sydney's west on Friday evening.
What happened
Emergency services were called to Mount Druitt shortly before 9pm on Friday 9 October after reports a man had been assaulted. Officers found the 36-year-old, described as a Sydney father, with stab wounds to his torso. He died at the scene despite paramedic help, according to the most recent account The Guardian.
The 13-year-old was arrested on Sunday at Mount Druitt police station. Police charged him with murder, breach of bail and an unrelated robbery offence. Breach of bail means breaking conditions set for an earlier release. A 16-year-old boy was arrested at a home in Cabramatta at about 8pm on Sunday 11 October and charged with being accessory after the fact to murder, meaning he is accused of helping after the alleged killing rather than taking part in the attack NSW Police.
What police say led to the attack
Police said the victim was on his way home from work when he stopped to speak to a group of young people he knew through family and friends. He then went to an ATM to withdraw money so those young people could travel home that night.
Police said another group of young people nearby took offence to the conversation. That dispute led to the alleged fatal attack. Police said the victim was allegedly stabbed twice. About a dozen people were in the area at the time.
Investigators said the 13-year-old was known to police. An investigator recognised him on CCTV footage from the incident. Police said at least two other people were allegedly involved and urged them to turn themselves in.
A knife allegedly used in the stabbing was recovered from a drain outside a unit block in Cabramatta. The recovery followed the arrest of the older boy in the same suburb.
Both boys were refused bail to appear before a children's court, a court that handles cases involving young people, on Monday 12 October. NSW Police listed the case as 'Teens charged after alleged fatal stabbing - Mt Druitt', dated Monday 12 October 2026, following its earlier release titled 'Man dies following stabbing - Mt Druitt'.
What comes next
The broader context here is what the court process must now sort out. Prosecutors will need to establish the sequence in a crowded scene, the role of each participant, and the link between the recovered knife and the wounds described. CCTV identification, accounts from the dozen people police say were present, and the circumstances of the arrests in Mount Druitt and Cabramatta are likely to carry weight. Police have left open the possibility of further arrests. The children's court appearance will set the process for how those issues are tested.
