Gateshead expect missing wages on Tuesday as US takeover moves closer

Gateshead's players and staff should finally receive their September wages on Tuesday.
Interim chairman Graham Wood said the money is on its way after an agreement in principle for American investment company Flacks Group to take over the running of the club, BBC Sport reported on 12 October. No one at Gateshead has been paid for September. The delay comes after major funding was withdrawn in the same week the wages went missing.
The rescue plan was put together quickly. A deal was struck on Thursday for the prospective new owners to provide an immediate loan to cover the overdue pay. Due diligence, the detailed financial checks that happen before any takeover, and an exclusivity agreement were then completed on Friday and the funding was released.
The cash has not landed yet because of international banking procedures. With the money coming from the United States, Wood said Tuesday is the latest date he expects it to arrive.
The club confirmed the timeline in an official 'CLUB UPDATE | Sunday, October 11th, 2026' published on its website, Gateshead FC said. That followed a statement from the players, who said on 10 October they hoped September's wages would soon be paid.
Off the pitch, the situation is urgent. On it, it is bleak. Gateshead sit bottom of the National League, the fifth tier of English men's football below the Football League.
They are also without a manager. Lee Cattermole was sacked earlier this month after four months in charge, with a record of one win and 11 defeats in 14 matches. Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Halifax Town left a caretaker team in charge. It was the club's 11th loss in 13 league games this season.
For fans, this means two battles at once. One is about bills and ownership and getting through to Tuesday. The other is about points, and stopping a season that started badly from sliding further away.
