England leave door open for Carse as contracts and coaches are confirmed

England director of cricket Rob Key says fast bowler Brydon Carse can play for England again, depending on the outcome of an ongoing disciplinary case.
Key spoke as England confirmed an updated list of 39 contracted players and new-look coaching teams for the Test and limited-overs sides. Carse is on that contracts list, but he has not been in a squad since an incident in August outside a nightclub in Derby. BBC Sport
Carse was arrested and then de-arrested after the incident. Derbyshire Police took no further action over allegations of assault. The Cricket Regulator, which handles off-field discipline in English cricket, has since charged him.
England say Carse is available for selection. He has been taking time away from international cricket while the Regulator process continues. Key told the Test Match Special podcast he could see the seamer returning if the charge is resolved in his favour.
Carse already holds a two-year England deal awarded last year, which runs until autumn 2027. A central contract is a yearly paid agreement that ties a player to England and shapes selection across formats.
The new list contains 30 full central contracts and nine development contracts. Eleven players, including Test captain Joe Root and limited-overs captain Harry Brook, have two-year deals running to 30 September 2028.
Uncapped pace bowler Henry Crocombe has also received a two-year contract. England have room for a large group after Ben Stokes and Mark Wood retired from international cricket.
What makes this stand out for fans is how much is changing around a settled core. Root and Brook are locked in as captains, yet the staff and the edges of the squad look different.
Stephen Fleming is England Test head coach and Brendon McCullum is white-ball head coach. The Test game is the five-day format. White-ball covers one-day and T20 cricket, played with a white ball and built around faster scoring.
Richard Dawson has left his job as Glamorgan head coach to join Fleming’s Test staff. James Foster and Eric Simons have also joined the red-ball group. Fleming previously worked with both men at Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
Marcus Trescothick stays with the red-ball team after acting as interim Test coach for the home series against Pakistan. On the white-ball side, Sarah Taylor, Jeetan Patel and Tim Southee remain on McCullum’s staff.
Kevin Pietersen will work with the limited-overs teams in the build-up to next year’s 50-over World Cup in southern Africa. England have not yet confirmed his exact role, only that he will be involved in the run-in to the tournament.
