Oli Field signs new York Knights deal until 2029

York Knights forward Oli Field has signed a new contract to stay with the club until the end of the 2029 season.
York announced the extension on 12 October 2026 under the headline "Three more years for Field at York!" York Knights. Field plays up front, where forwards lead the tackling and take the hardest carries into contact. Keeping him tied down settles an important part of the middle of the pitch.
Field first joined York on loan from Leeds Rhinos in 2023, then made the move permanent later that year BBC Sport. A loan in rugby league works the same way as in football. A player temporarily switches clubs before either returning or signing for good. Field signed for good. He has not looked back.
Permanent means York hold his registration. They pick the team, manage his training and plan around him long term. That trust has built quickly.
He has now made 112 appearances for the Knights in all competitions. That total covers league games plus cup ties. Reaching three figures matters. Rugby league runs on a long, weekly grind of tackles, carries and collisions. To be picked that often means a coach trusts a player to do the job and back up again the next week.
Field played 28 times during York's first season in Super League, the 13-a-side code's top division. Super League is faster and more physical than the divisions below. There are no quiet weekends. Twenty-eight appearances suggests he was available for almost the entire campaign. Coaches value that reliability in the forwards, where knocks and suspensions can quickly thin the rotation.
He was already contracted for 2027 before this new agreement. The fresh terms extend that stay to the end of 2029. York said its Squad Builder fund helped retain him, the supporter-backed pot that tops up the playing budget. Supporter funds like this are common in rugby league. Fans contribute directly to help keep or attract players.
The club went down a similar route last year. On 31 October 2025 it confirmed Field would stay for the 2026 season on a two-year deal, again with Squad Builder support. That agreement covered 2026 and 2027. This extension carries him two seasons further.
For fans, this means continuity. They know Field's game. Hard work in defence. Straight running with the ball. Week-in, week-out availability. He will not grab every headline. He will do the tackles that let others play.
