Meatballs stars pitch Crave camp comedy at MIPCOM ahead of 2027 debut

Robbie G.K. and Maddie Phillips have brought their failing summer camp to Cannes.
The two actors discussed Meatballs in an interview at MIPCOM Cannes, the market where broadcasters and streamers shop for new series, according to Deadline. The Crave comedy is being sold to international buyers in Cannes by Sphere Abacus, the distribution company owned by Crave parent Bell Media.
Meatballs is billed as a raunchy, irreverent reimagining of the 1979 Canadian camp comedy. The original film starred Bill Murray and was directed by Ivan Reitman. This new version follows counsellors trying to keep a failing summer camp afloat.
Phillips plays Skipper, the lead character and head camp counsellor. The role is a modern take on the character made famous by Murray in the original film, Crave said when it announced her casting on September 2, according to Bell Media. G.K. plays Dale. The pair star as counsellors alongside Mollie Guest, Jordan Kronis, Molly Lewis, Krista Nazaire, Markus McNamara and Lachlan Quarmby, with guest stars including Mae Martin.
The series is made by Blink49 Studios and Incendo. Jeff Detsky and Wendy Litner are the showrunners, meaning the head writers in charge of the series day to day.
G.K. described the project as a gamble worth taking. “It’s a big swing, and as we’ve seen from Crave and others, big swings are worth taking,” he said in the MIPCOM interview.
For viewers, the names may already be familiar. Phillips appeared in GEN V. G.K. appeared in Heated Rivalry.
Meatballs is slated to premiere on Crave in 2027. No release date or episode count has been confirmed.
