Jodie Comer has won the inaugural Outstanding Achievement in British Theatre prize at the UK Theatre Awards 2026 for the tour of Prima Facie.

The winners were announced on Monday 12 October at 8 Northumberland Avenue in London. The ceremony was hosted by La Voix and sponsored by Encore, as reported by WhatsOnStage.

The awards celebrate theatre made and shown around the UK. Nominations were announced by UK Theatre on 6 October, also under the Encore sponsorship, according to UK Theatre.

Best New Play went to The Last Stand Of Mrs Mary Whitehouse. Best Play Revival went to Our Town, a co-production by Welsh National Theatre and Rose Theatre, meaning the two companies made the show together.

Tom Littler was named Best Director for two productions, Love's Labour's Lost and Much Ado About Nothing. Two shows, one director. That is a rare double.

In the acting categories, Adrian Lester won Best Performance in a Play for Cyrano De Bergerac. Julianne Pundan won Best Performance in a Musical for Miss Saigon.

Gloria Obianyo won Best Supporting Performance for As You Like It. Ceci Calf won Best Design for The Assassination Of Margaret Thatcher.

Beauty And The Beast won Best Show for Children & Young People.

What makes this stand out is the spread. Big names sit alongside new writing, revivals, design and work for young audiences. For fans, this means plenty of productions to catch on tour and in regional houses.

Three venues are still in the running for a separate honour, the UK's Most Welcoming Theatre Award. The finalists are Nottingham Playhouse, Theatr Clwyd and Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, according to UK Theatre.
