Ego Nwodim answered Shane Gillis's Saturday Night Live gym jokes with a gym selfie of her own.

The former SNL cast member shared a photo from the gym on her Instagram Story with the caption "whore reporting for duty", Variety reported on Oct 12. She followed it with a photo of her post-workout meal captioned "getting my 30 grams of protein in after heauxing."

The posts came after Gillis made women's workout clothes a central bit in his monologue, the opening solo comedy spot that starts the live NBC sketch show. The monologue aired on Oct 10, 2026, according to NBC.

"I haven't been to the gym in so long I didn't know women just dress like whores now?" Gillis said in the set. He then described neon shorts with wrinkles going around the cheeks and combining at the butthole, and joked that men are not allowed to look because women are filming.

He framed the material around his own discomfort in the gym. Going to a public gym as a fat guy, especially in New York, is a nightmare, he said, Variety reported. The wider set also covered gym culture, his family and a Hitler-like haircut, Complex reported, and included an anecdote involving fellow comedian Joe Rogan.

Nwodim knows that SNL stage well. She joined the cast in 2018 and stayed for seven seasons before leaving ahead of Season 51. The show is now in Season 52, with the Oct 3 broadcast billed as its second episode.

Actor Dan Levy also criticised the joke. Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores, he said, it makes the men calling them whores misogynists.

Gillis is a returning host. He hosted for the second time on March 1, 2025, when he opened with an eight-minute stand-up set, according to NBC.

For viewers catching up on phones, the exchange moved quickly from stage to feed. Short posts. Direct quotes. No further comment yet from either camp.
