Apple has refreshed the HomePod mini with an S10 chip, planned Siri AI features, and a $149 price. Pre-orders opened Oct. 13, 2026, with retail sales starting Oct. 30, according to TechCrunch. The external design is unchanged.

The price is $50 higher than the original mini from 2020. It follows an earlier U.S. increase from $99 to $129 in June, tied to higher memory costs, as reported by 9to5Mac. The $149 list price locks in that higher level.

Apple says the S10 improves dynamic range, meaning the difference between quiet and loud sounds, along with loudness and overall audio quality. The chip also provides extra processing power for more demanding Siri models on its Home devices. Earlier reporting from Reuters said the mini and Apple TV would keep their current designs and gain faster processors to support those models.

The new Siri AI will support multi-turn conversations, where you can ask a question and then ask follow-ups without repeating the full request. Apple has not given a date. The feature will arrive in a future software update, so early buyers will use the current Siri until then.

Earlier reporting suggested Siri AI might work with help from a nearby iPhone, as noted by MacRumors. 9to5Mac described the S10-powered Siri AI features as a first for Apple Home products. The launch message now focuses on the speaker itself, with the timing pushed back.

The new mini can monitor for specific home sounds, such as a smoke alarm, and send a notification to your phone. In technical terms, this is a narrow, event-driven task. It listens for a short trigger sound, which is different from transcribing speech nonstop or reasoning over an open microphone.

Apple is also positioning the mini as home audio equipment. Up to four units can be paired with the new Apple TV 4K for a home entertainment setup. The speakers can be set as the default output for a Mac, for video calls or music playback.

The top of the device now gives visual feedback linked to playback. A feature called Sound Glow uses colors from the album art to make the top glow and pulse with music. Soundscapes such as rain or ocean waves can also trigger animations. The mini comes in pink, green, blue, white and midnight.

Reuters, citing Bloomberg, reported in late September that Apple planned a smart-home hub launch on Oct. 13 as part of a wider smart-home push.

In my view, the broader context here is a familiar sequence. Apple is shipping the hardware first and adding the assistant upgrade in software. That approach works if the S10 leaves enough room for larger on-speaker models and faster handling of back-and-forth dialogue, but Apple will need multi-turn answers that feel clearly better than single commands. My kids learned to keep speaker requests short because older models often misunderstood them. The test now is whether they start using full, follow-up sentences without thinking about it, for HomeKit routines, media handoff and quick questions, supported by the four-speaker pairing and Mac audio option for steady everyday use.
