Live-action Moana sets Disney+ streaming date for Oct. 21

Disney's live-action Moana will begin streaming on Disney+ on Oct. 21, Variety reported.
The date lands just over three months after the film premiered exclusively in theatres on July 10, 2026, according to Disney+. It gives the remake a fast route from the big screen to home viewing.
Catherine Laga'aia stars as Moana, with Dwayne Johnson returning as Maui, Variety reported. Johnson first voiced the demigod Maui in Disney's Academy Award-nominated animated Moana and later reprised the role in Moana 2, according to Disney.
The supporting cast brings back familiar faces from the voyage. Rena Owen plays Gramma Tala. John Tui plays Chief Tui. Frankie Adams plays Sina, Moana's mother, and Jemaine Clement plays Tamatoa, the giant crab.
Thomas Kail directs the remake. The screenplay is by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, with music by Mark Mancina and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The story follows Moana's voyage to restore the heart of Te Fiti. She leaves her island home, teams up with Maui and sets out across the ocean to lift the curse threatening her people.
The original 2016 Moana has proved durable on streaming. It crossed 1 billion hours streamed on Disney+ and was the most-streamed movie of 2023 on any platform, according to Disney.
For fans, this means no extra ticket is needed. The film will be available to all Disney+ subscribers from Oct. 21, after its theatre-only run.
