Wales will meet Norway in a two-legged Women's World Cup play-off final in December after finishing Albania in style.

Goals from Mayzee Davies, Elise Hughes and Hannah Cain sealed a 3-0 win in Llanelli and a 4-0 aggregate victory — the combined score across home and away legs — in the semi-final, according to BBC.

Wales head coach Rhian Wilkinson says the pressure will be on Norway. It is a bold call. She believes her underdogs can play with freedom while the favourites carry expectation.

The tie starts at Cardiff City Stadium on 1 December. The return leg follows in Norway four days later.

There is a familiar face in the opposite dugout. Norway are coached by Gemma Grainger, the former Wales boss, which adds a personal edge to an already big night for Welsh football.

The task is huge. Norway are ranked 14th in the world by FIFA, 17 places above Wales. They won the Women's World Cup in 1995 and have appeared at every tournament since it began in 1991.

Wales have never beaten a top-20 side in a competitive match. Their only major tournament so far was Euro 2025. This is new ground.

The win over Albania showed what this team can do when it clicks. Davies, Hughes and Cain all scored in Llanelli to back up the 1-0 lead Wales carried into the second leg. Three different scorers. A clean sheet. Job done.

Even beating Norway may not be the end of the road. Wales could still face an inter-confederation play-off in February — a final qualifying round against teams from outside Europe — to reach the World Cup in Brazil.

What makes this stand out is the mood around it. Wilkinson is not hiding from the gap in rankings or history. She is leaning into it, telling her players to be brave and letting Norway feel the weight of being favourites.
