Secondhand shoppers pay above shop price for new Chanel bags

Shoppers are paying up to 15% more than shop price to buy some new Chanel bags secondhand.
Not less. More. Fashionphile, the US reseller of pre-owned luxury goods, said buyers in its 2026 report paid 13% above retail price for the Chanel Souplissimo and the Chanel Archetype Tote, and 15% above retail for Chanel Urban Essential bags, as reported by WWD.
The figures cover bags grouped under Chanel by Matthieu Blazy. Fashionphile, which has a longstanding partnership with Neiman Marcus, the US department-store chain, maintains a curated page for those handbags and accessories, according to Fashionphile.
The reseller, which deals in the trade of pre-owned goods, named the US rapper Cardi B as its newest global brand ambassador in May, according to WWD. That appointment put a mainstream entertainment face on a business usually tracked through sales rankings and resale values.
Elsewhere in the 2026 report, Louis Vuitton, the French luxury house, held the top spot. Its Speedy bag was the top seller for the second year in a row, and its value increased by 16.2 percent year-over-year. Chanel, the French luxury house, took second place among top-selling bags with its Double Flap.
Prada, the Italian luxury house, climbed fast. Its Re-Edition ranked third among top-selling bags, up from eighth the previous year. Goyard, the French trunk and bag maker, placed its Saint Louis seventh in the top 10, pushing the Ava from Celine, the French house owned by LVMH, off the list.
The sharpest jump belonged to Fendi, the Italian house owned by LVMH. Its Spy bag recorded a 127 percent spike in average resale value.
What makes this stand out is the behaviour it points to. Secondhand is normally a way to pay less. Here, buyers paid a premium to get the bag now rather than wait or join a store list. For fans following Cardi B as well as the bags, it is a reminder that the shop floor and the resale site price the same handbag in different ways.
