Skubiszewski to be honoured at 2026 Screen Music Awards in Brisbane

Composer Cezary Skubiszewski will receive the Distinguished Services to the Australian Screen award at the 2026 Screen Music Awards on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The ceremony will be held at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, Billboard reported. The awards are presented by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC).
Actor Rob Collins will host the ceremony, which begins at 5:30pm, according to Noise11. Guest presenters include actor Claudia Karvan OAM and actor and musician Ayesha Madon, APRA AMCOS confirmed in its announcement, “2026 Screen Music Award nominees revealed.”
Antony Partos, Josh Hogan and Ned Beckley lead this year’s nominations with four each. Their names sit at the top of a field covering film, television, documentary, advertising and other screen work.
Skubiszewski was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1948. He composed the scores for the feature films Two Hands (1999) and Red Dog (2011), and wrote music for the television series Sky Trackers and Neighbours.
His screen credits also include music for two major sporting events: the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. That range, from cinema to television to large-scale ceremony, has defined a long working life in Australia.
He is a 12-time winner at the Screen Music Awards. He has also won four AACTA Awards and four AGSC Awards. He received the Centenary Medal in 2003 for service to Australian society and film production, and the Film Critics Circle of Australia’s Life Achievement Award in 2010.
The Distinguished Services award recognises sustained contribution to Australian screen composition. The prior recipient of the trophy was Christopher Gordon.
Submissions for this year’s awards closed at 11:59pm AEST on Thursday 25 June. Winners will be decided in Brisbane later this month.
