Netflix has laid off Doug Belgrad, its vice-president of film, as part of a wider restructuring of the organisation The Hollywood Reporter reported on October 14, 2026.

The shake-up is described as Netflix's largest in four years, according to that same report. It forms part of a plan to cut about 5% of the workforce Reuters reported on October 9, 2026.

That is about 800 jobs. Netflix said it had about 16,000 full-time employees Variety reported on October 9, 2026. Reuters reported on October 9 that the announcement was expected as early as next week, which points to the week of October 14.

Belgrad joined Netflix in 2024 as a deputy to film chairman Dan Lin The Hollywood Reporter reported. Lin had succeeded Scott Stuber in the role overseeing all movies at Netflix. Belgrad's hire was Lin's first major executive move after taking over.

The title was vice-president of film, a senior executive rank below the chairman Deadline reported in May 2024. Lin organised his team before bringing Belgrad in, laying off staff in the film division first.

Belgrad was a familiar name in the industry before Netflix. He had a long tenure at Sony, including serving as president of Columbia Pictures, the studio behind the Spider-Man and James Bond releases. After that studio run, he launched a production company called 2.0 Entertainment, also known as 2.0.

His exit comes only days after a public appearance for Netflix. Belgrad attended the Los Angeles world premiere of Animals, the Ben Affleck-directed film, earlier this month.

For viewers, this kind of restructuring deals with who buys films, who supervises them and how teams are organised. It does not by itself change what is already on the service. Netflix has not detailed which other roles are affected.
