Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano controller for $49.99. Pre-orders are open, with shipments starting in November. The Verge

Microsoft describes it as its smallest controller, at just over five inches long. It is designed for younger players, smaller hands, and portable play on the go.

The Nano supports Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth for Xbox consoles, phones, tablets, and PCs. Xbox Wireless is the dedicated Xbox link, while Bluetooth is the standard link for phones and computers. A USB-C port sits at the rear, alongside a pairing button.

It uses a built-in rechargeable battery and does not require AA batteries. Charging and wired play both go through USB-C.

It includes one programmable Action Button for screenshots, gameplay capture, and other Xbox shortcuts. It works like a shortcut key on a keyboard.

The final hardware does not include the small screen seen in earlier leaks.

The official Xbox Nano Controller page uses the tagline "Our smallest controller, for big adventures." It states "Take play to more places with the Xbox Nano Controller." Xbox Xbox Wire's homepage lists a story titled "Meet the Xbox Nano Controller" under Future of Play. The accessories catalog also lists a "Nano Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S," so Nano is a naming family rather than a single product.

Effective August 1, 2026, the price of Xbox 512 GB console models increased by US$100. Effective August 1, 2026, the price of Xbox 1 TB console models increased by US$150.

The broader context here is size against comfort. A shorter body fits small hands and small bags, but leaves less room for stick spacing, trigger travel, and grip. In my view, that is sensible segmentation, not a replacement. I have watched a younger player settle into a controller that actually fits, and the gain is clear. A $49.99 rechargeable pad with easy pairing and one-press capture lowers friction for shared households. The longer-term enable is simple. More people can play comfortably in more places.
