Netflix's Untold to Cover Fake 49ers Receiver Daejon Love Case
Netflix is turning the Daejon Love impersonation case into a new sports documentary titled Untold: Wide Deceiver.
The film will join Untold, Netflix’s long-running sports documentary series, and focus on Love, who posed as a San Francisco 49ers wide receiver to take money from women, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Federal prosecutors identify him under his full legal name, Daejon Labrayae Love, aged 35. He was arrested on Aug. 24, 2026 on a wire fraud charge after alleged victims came forward to law enforcement.
Before that arrest, Love had already gone viral. Social media videos, photos and direct messages in which he claimed 49ers status spread widely. One clip showed him running routes and catching balls on a beach while wearing a 49ers helmet. Another post showed a San Francisco No. 7 jersey cake that he claimed the team had sent him for his birthday.
Love also sent direct messages to businesses. In those messages he asked for free goods and services and asked companies to provide a personal security detail.
Prosecutors allege the scheme went further than impersonation. Love and an associate identified only as Chan allegedly organised fictitious investments to defraud more than two dozen women, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The alleged victims were in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California.
Netflix says the documentary will be told firsthand by those affected by the scam. No director or participant list had been announced at the time of the report.
Untold: Wide Deceiver comes from Propagate and Stardust Frames in association with North of Now and The Cut. Executive producers are Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Maclain Way, Chapman Way, Ryan Duffy, Isabel San Vargas, Aaron Ginsburg, William Green, Andrew Renzi and Nick Boak. Maclain Way and Chapman Way are the creators of the Untold series.
