Netflix has cut roughly 1,000 staff, about six percent of its workforce, in its largest round of layoffs since 2022.

Co-chief executives Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters announced the reduction in an email to staff, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The company has not publicly detailed which divisions were hit hardest.

The cuts include several senior figures in television. Lisa Lang McMullen, director of overall deals and series, meaning long-term contracts with creators and the shows that come from them, has left. So have James Oh, director of drama series, and Carolina Garcia and Andrew McQuinn, both directors of original series.

Three managers in TV were also laid off. They are Jason Pan, manager of original series, Aaron Davidson, manager of adult animation comedy, and Dan Evans, manager of original animation.

Deadline first reported the director- and manager-level TV exits on 14 October 2026. The film side was affected too. Film vice president Doug Belgrad and executive Sheroum Kim exited as part of the reorganisation.

The final number landed slightly above earlier expectations. On 9 October, Reuters reported that Netflix was planning to cut about five percent of staff, citing an original report by Puck News. An announcement was then expected as early as the following week.

For viewers, this matters because these are commissioning teams. They order series, renew them and keep them in production. A change there does not cancel a show by itself. It changes who manages it.

The scale is new for recent years. In May 2022, Netflix laid off about 150 employees, mostly in the United States, or about two percent of staff at the time, Reuters reported.
