Aston Villa thrashed Fenerbahce 6-0 at Villa Park on Wednesday, 14 October, in the Champions League.

It is the club's biggest ever win in European competition, according to BBC Sport. Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley scored twice each to lead the rout.

Kick-off was 8pm in Birmingham, in what Villa had billed as the first of four home games in the league phase, the opening stage where clubs play for a place in the knockouts. UEFA listed the tie as a Matchday 2 fixture in that stage.

Villa Park was hosting Champions League football for the first time that campaign. It was also the club's first Champions League tie at home since April 2025.

Villa arrived with a fortress record behind them. They had won their past ten European matches at Villa Park before Fenerbahce visited. That run stretched back through last season's continental campaign.

The Turkish side will know Villa well. The clubs also met on 22 January 2026 in the Europa League, when Villa won 1-0 in Turkey. Jadon Sancho scored the only goal with a first-half header, his first for the club, in a result that sent Villa into the last 16 with a game to spare.

What makes this stand out is the scale of the turnaround between those two meetings. January was tight and cagey. This was loose and joyful. Six goals. A home crowd watching history. Strangers hugging at full time.

For fans, this means an early lift in a long league phase. There is still work to do to reach the knockouts. But a record European win at home is the kind of night that stays with a city.
