Christie's in London closed its Frieze Week auctions with US$289 million in total sales, led by a £31.56 million Kandinsky.

The week-long total, reported by ARTnews, covers the house's sales timed to Frieze Week in London in October 2026. Frieze Week is the city's autumn art fair week, when the major auction houses hold their top seasonal sales.

The core of the total came from two flagship auctions — evening sales, the night-time sessions where auction houses offer their most valuable lots. Christie's said its 20th/21st Century Art Evening Sales in London in October 2026 achieved £219 million, according to Christie's.

The top lot of those evening sales was Wassily Kandinsky's Das bunte Leben. The 1907 painting sold for £31,560,000, Christie's confirmed in its press results. It led the night.

Part of the week's programme was the Monsoon Peter Simon Collection. Christie's offered the collection across evening, day and online sales in October 2026. The full collection was on view from 26 September to 1 October before the auctions.

What makes this stand out is the mix. A single-owner collection sold alongside the main evening auctions helped lift a week that already had a clear headline lot in the Kandinsky.
