Karla Sofía Gascón and Itziar Ituño will star in “When Devils Rule,” a six-part Spanish drama now in development.

Variety reported the casting on Oct. 15. The Spanish title is given as “Los demones mandan.” The show is still in development, meaning no broadcaster or transmission date has been announced.

Gascón will play Manuela, a teacher at an elite school. Ituño will play Evita, personal secretary to the prime minister of the story’s fictional country.

The series is built around four heroines from working-class backgrounds. Their jobs span care, education, healthcare and journalism. The story is loosely based on Argentine author Manuel Mujica Lainez’s novel “The Journey of the Seven Demons.”

Behind the camera, the show was created and is produced by Nano Arrieta and Claudia Ruíz. Arrieta, founder of Atlantika Films, is writing the pilot script — the trial episode used to set the tone for a series — with Basque screenwriter Ibai Ariztegi. Rodrigo Susarte is attached to direct, reuniting him with Ituño. Atlantika Films is the production banner behind the project.

The next step is the market. Producers will pitch the series at Tallinn’s TV Beats Co-Financing Market on Nov. 16-17, a pitching event where teams seek broadcasters, streamers and financiers to join a project.

TV Beats is the drama series strand of Industry@Tallinn. Ten European projects were selected for the 2026 edition, according to organisers listed by Cineuropa.

Atlantika Films is also behind “Patagonia,” a Movistar Plus Original set to premiere in January 2027.

For viewers, this means waiting. Attachment of lead actors and a market pitch are early steps. Financing and a green light, the formal order to make the series, still have to follow.
