A24 sets free Club Kid screenings for nightlife in 12 cities

A24 will hold free screenings of "Club Kid" for nightlife communities in 12 cities across the United States, according to Variety.
The screenings are presented with Resident Advisor and will take place in the week of Oct. 24. The announcement was reported on Oct. 15.
The 12 cities are Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Each screening starts at 7 p.m. Tickets cost nothing.
The free shows come ahead of the commercial rollout. "Club Kid" opens in limited release on Nov. 6, according to Variety. Limited release means opening in a small number of theatres first.
The film is the feature directorial debut of Jordan Firstman, his first time directing a full-length film. Firstman wrote the screenplay and stars as a New York City nightlife promoter who discovers he is the father of a 10-year-old boy.
Reggie Absolom plays the boy. The wider cast includes Diego Calva, Cara Delevingne, Paris Petitjen, Coleen Camp, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Vicki Pepperdine, Nigil Whyte, Eldar Isgandarov, Saturn Risin9, Miss Benny and Alaska Riley.
"Club Kid" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it received a six-minute standing ovation. A24 then acquired the film for $17 million, according to Variety.
It has since travelled the festival circuit. It held its hometown premiere at Alice Tully Hall as part of NYFF64, according to the New York Film Festival. Screenings linked to Toronto and Telluride were also organised alongside its limited theatrical release, according to Resident Advisor.
What makes this stand out is the audience. By booking free shows for nightlife workers and regulars, A24 is taking a film about club life directly to club life before it reaches paying cinemas.
