The Prince of Wales told young Black leaders “You’re going places!” during a visit to east London on 14 October to mark Black History Month. William met scholars and alumni of The Amos Bursary at UrbanMBA in Hoxton. Black History Month is observed in October in Britain.

The 14 October outing was reported by People as a visit in support of young Black leaders. The encouragement in Hoxton was captured by GB News. The engagement brought together current scholars and former students.

The Amos Bursary was established in 2009 by Baroness Valerie Amos and her sister Colleen Amos. It supports talented young people of African and Caribbean heritage to overcome obstacles to further education and employment. The aim is to ease the path into study and work.

UrbanMBA, the host, is a Hoxton-based charity in east London. It works with marginalised young adults through education, mentoring and training.

During the session William said tenacity and resilience scored highly among the participants. He connected those qualities to the challenges and barriers they had faced to get where they are, as reported by Royal Central.

William is the heir to the throne, next in line to succeed. He has said one of his roles as heir is to try to help people in need, as reported by Reuters in October 2024.

There is longer context to any royal conversation about race. In March 2021, after Meghan, the wife of Prince Harry, said an unnamed member of the Royal Family had made remarks about race, William said Britain’s royals were not racist, as reported by Reuters.

For those in the room, the business of the day was practical. It was about study and work, and the next step after each.
