Guitarricadelafuente and Los Javis to be honoured at Miami Film Festival Gems

Spanish singer Guitarricadelafuente and film-makers Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi will be honoured in Miami for their work on La Bola Negra.
Variety will present Guitarricadelafuente with the Virtuoso Award and Calvo and Ambrossi — known together as Los Javis — with the Visionary Director Award, Variety reported on Oct. 15. The presentation is part of Miami Dade College’s Miami Film Festival Gems.
The awards event is set for Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wolfson Auditorium, according to the same report. It sits inside the 13th Miami Film Festival Gems, which runs Oct. 29 to Nov. 5. All three honourees will join a question-and-answer session with Variety co-president and co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh.
Guitarricadelafuente is being recognised for playing Sebastián in La Bola Negra, an upcoming film from Netflix. It is his acting debut. Calvo and Ambrossi directed the film.
The release follows a split pattern common for streaming features. La Bola Negra opens in select theatres on Oct. 16 before its premiere on Netflix on Dec. 2, Variety reported.
For music fans, the name will be familiar. Guitarricadelafuente released the albums La Cantera in 2022 and Spanish Leather in 2025 and has been nominated for two Latin Grammy Awards. His original song La Nieve is featured in the film.
Calvo and Ambrossi previously created the series Veneno and La Mesías. They won the best director prize at Cannes for La Bola Negra, and the film has since added the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Audience Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
La Bola Negra is also Spain’s candidate for the Oscars, Yahoo Noticias reported on Oct. 7.
What makes this stand out is the crossover. A singer steps into his first screen role, and two series creators bring that performance to a festival awards night just as the film starts its run to cinemas and then streaming.
