The Verge published an October 15 roundup recommending eight recent games to finish before the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and Grand Theft Auto VI arrive. The Verge

The roundup frames November as the cutoff. It names Control Resonant, Marvel's Wolverine, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, and Gears of War: E-Day from the preceding weeks, then points to the Ocarina of Time remake and Grand Theft Auto VI as the two big releases due next month.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to ship on November 19th, 2026, for Xbox and PS5. The Verge The date has been delayed twice. Rockstar showed an "extended look" at the game at the end of August on YouTube and Netflix. The Verge

Nintendo's Ocarina of Time remake launches in November. The Verge It will be a Switch 2 exclusive.

Collider published a parallel list, naming Gears of War: E-Day and Phantom Blade Zero among five October games to play before GTA 6 and the Ocarina of Time remake arrive in November. Collider

Among the smaller October titles is Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. It is available on PS5, Xbox, Switch, and Steam. It is a new Castlevania game from the studios behind Dead Cells, with assist settings that let players adjust the difficulty.

Dressmaker is another focus. It was made by South African studio Free Lives through a small internal team called Cozy Lives. Players run a village dress shop, taking commissions, sketching designs, choosing fabrics and accessories, and sewing the dresses.

Heartworm uses classic survival horror systems. Players carry limited items, and the camera works as both a flashlight and a weapon. It offers a modern option to turn off tank controls, the older movement style where buttons steer the character relative to where they face rather than the screen. That style is a deliberate choice, not a missing feature, and turning it off changes routing and pacing while the limited inventory keeps the pressure intact.

Orbitals is a co-op puzzle game, built for two players solving together. It includes a friend pass, like a spare ticket, so a second person can join without buying a separate copy. One purchase covers the session.

The broader context here is one longtime players will recognize. Big November releases tend to absorb attention, multiplayer activity, and conversation for months. Shorter games with distinct ideas are easier to finish first.

In my view, the useful filter is not genre but time commitment. A dressmaking sim built around commissions, a 2D action game with adjustable assists, a horror game with switchable controls, and a co-op puzzler with a friend pass can all be started and finished without a 60-hour lock-in. That makes them workable in the three weeks before November 19, and the October list is largely playable across systems, so the hardware split in November, with a Switch 2 exclusive on one side and Xbox and PS5 on the other, does not apply yet.
