iPhone Duo Preorders Open Oct. 16: Price, Storage Options, and How to Prepare

Apple will open preorders for iPhone Duo on October 16 at 8am ET / 5am PT. The foldable starts at $1,999. The Verge

It is Apple's first foldable phone. The Verge Customers can pre-order on apple.com and in the Apple Store app. Apple Availability begins Friday, October 23. Apple

Apple is letting shoppers pre-select color, storage capacity, carrier preference, and trade-in setup before preorders open. Those who enter details early will have the order sitting in the cart, ready to confirm at checkout when preorders open. The Verge

That early setup covers the full purchase path. Color, capacity, carrier, and trade-in are typically the four points where a launch-night order stalls. Moving them ahead of the 8am ET window shortens checkout to a confirmation step.

On storage, the base-model iPhone Duo offers 256GB for $1,999. The Verge The line offers a storage option up to 2TB. The Verge Apple also lists a 512GB configuration, a Night Sky color option, and a T-Mobile carrier version on its store pages.

Apple lists iPhone Duo with a 7.6-inch display, which the company says is the largest iPhone display ever. Apple It also says the device uses an A20 Pro chip, its phone processor, and has a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, a two-lens setup that merges detail from both. Apple

Apple says iPhone Duo includes a reimagined iOS 27 experience for new poses, or folding positions. Apple The company has not detailed the pose set in the verified materials beyond that description. For developers shipping universal iOS apps, or apps built to run on all iPhones, pose awareness, continuity between folded and unfolded states, and multitasking layout will be the integration surface to watch.

Apple Newsroom features an Update titled "Open up to new possibilities with iPhone Duo." Apple's iPhone Duo Case will be available for $79 in the U.S. Apple

The broader context here is launch logistics more than hardware. Pre-built carts, stored payment, and pre-cleared trade-in values are now standard practice for high-volume iPhone releases. Applied to a first-generation foldable at a $1,999 entry price, the mechanism reduces friction for early adopters while giving Apple a cleaner read on configuration mix before the October 23 on-sale date.

Looking at what this means for buyers, the storage ladder matters. A 256GB base at $1,999 puts the entry point at the top of the conventional iPhone price band. The 512GB listing and 2TB ceiling point to a lineup tuned for on-device media libraries, ProRes-style capture, or high-resolution video that uses a lot of space, and large local models and caches, or AI files kept on the phone. Carrier selection at pre-order, including the listed T-Mobile version, keeps eSIM provisioning, the digital setup of your phone plan, and installment billing inside Apple's checkout rather than pushing it to carrier channels.

In my view, the technical questions worth tracking are software behavior and silicon headroom. A 7.6-inch canvas with pose-dependent UI changes the assumptions around split view, stage management, keyboard placement, and camera preview. The A20 Pro naming suggests Apple wants to frame the foldable as a performance device, not a compromise form factor. If iOS 27 handles state restoration cleanly across open, partially folded, and closed use, the display size becomes usable workspace rather than simply larger video area. That outcome would do more for long-term adoption than any single camera or chip specification.
