Santiago Caputo, the chief adviser to Argentina's President Javier Milei, has said Argentina must reclaim Las Malvinas, Argentina's name for the Falkland Islands, to prevent the encroachment of an Islamic state in the South Atlantic. The Guardian

Caputo linked the claim to the election of Sagal Abdi-Wali to the British parliament. He described her election as evidence of the Islamisation of Britain and wrote that seeing the United Kingdom being colonised by Islam is an imminent risk to the West, according to the same report.

He accompanied his post with an image of Abdi-Wali being sworn into parliament. Milei shared Caputo's post on the social media platform X.

Abdi-Wali, Labour's candidate, was elected MP for Holborn and St Pancras in London in October 2026, defeating Green Party leader Zack Polanski. She is a former child refugee from Somalia.

Caputo has worked for Milei since 2021. His comments came during a growing row over the Falkland Islands involving Argentina and the United Kingdom in October 2026.

The Argentine government has intensified its campaign to reclaim the Falkland Islands. Express Milei has said the legitimate claim for the full exercise of sovereignty over the Islas Malvinas is a national cause that Argentina will pursue, and he ratified before the United Nations Argentina's defense of sovereignty over the Islands.
