Independent film company Bleecker Street has a new owner. Outerlight Entertainment has acquired the studio, in a deal reported by Variety on 15 October 2026.

Outerlight was formerly known as First Look Entertainment, according to Variety. That history matters for anyone tracking company names through credits and catalogues. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, which is common in private deals of this kind.

Bleecker Street was founded in 2014 by Andrew Karpen, Variety reported. Twelve years on, it operates as an independent studio. That means it finds films from producers and filmmakers and handles their release without the large-scale machinery of a major Hollywood organisation. It lives or dies on its choices, one title at a time.

The studio will continue to operate independently after the sale. Chief Executive Kent Sanderson and President and Chief Marketing Officer Tyler DiNapoli stay in their posts, according to Variety. In practice, that keeps the same leadership over creative decisions and over how films are presented to the public, a short chain with clear responsibility.

That independence covers the day-to-day decisions in full. Bleecker Street retains control of its slate, the industry term for its line-up of current and upcoming films, as well as acquisitions, distribution, marketing, filmmaker relationships and daily operations, Variety reported. Acquisitions means choosing which films to buy.

Distribution is the practical work of booking films into cinemas and guiding them to later platforms. Marketing shapes posters, trailers and campaigns. Filmmaker relationships keep directors and producers returning with their next project.

Bleecker Street also has a home on pay television. Its feature films are shown across SHOWTIME's on-air, on-demand and streaming services, according to Paramount Press Express. On-air covers the traditional linear channels.

On-demand and streaming let viewers choose when to watch. For a smaller studio, that kind of second window extends the life of each release. That detail was set out by Paramount Press Express in February 2022.

What makes this stand out is the emphasis on continuity. Same team. Same control of what gets bought and how it reaches audiences. The ownership has changed, but the people choosing the films have not.
