IShowSpeed teams with Obamas' Higher Ground for one-night cinema release of The Eyes of Ghana

IShowSpeed has partnered with Breakwater Studios and Higher Ground, the production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, to bring the documentary The Eyes of Ghana to theatres, as exclusively revealed by Variety Variety. The creator, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., is backing a one-night-only cinema outing for the film. One night only.
The screening is set for Oct. 28. Regal, AMC and Cinemark will carry it, alongside select regional chains and independent cinemas. Tickets and local showtimes are listed at TheEyesOfGhana.com.
The film is directed by Ben Proudfoot and premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the Canadian autumn event where buyers and sellers launch many awards-season documentaries. It centres on Ghanaian cinematographer Chris Hesse and his attempt to rescue more than 1,000 films that captured Africa's fight for independence in the 1950s and '60s. That archive forms the spine of the story.
Hesse is 93, according to Breakwater Studios, which describes the project as a documentary feature spotlighting his work Breakwater Studios. Breakwater, an Academy Award-winning filmmaking company, describes itself as a maker of humanist short-form documentaries. Regal lists the theatrical cut at 1 hour 30 minutes Regal.
Barack and Michelle Obama are credited as executive producers, the senior backers who help fund and champion a production. Proudfoot is an Oscar-winning director Deadline. AMC is already hosting a dedicated page for the title with showtimes, trailers, videos and ticket links AMC.
What makes this stand out is the combination on the billing. A creator with a huge online following. A former United States president and first lady among the producers. And a preservation tale rooted in Ghana's national archive. For fans, this means a single date to see it together in a theatre rather than waiting for streaming.
