The Prince and Princess of Wales closed Baby Loss Awareness Week with a photograph of a single burning candle. The image was posted on their official account on X, the site formerly called Twitter, at 7:01pm on 15 October 2026. The post was shared in solidarity with families affected by pregnancy and baby loss, according to Royal Central.

The candle burned amber. Its side carried the words "Wave of Light". The caption used the hashtag #WaveOfLight. William and Catherine added no lengthy message alongside the image. The flame did the work.

Baby Loss Awareness Week takes place from 9 to 15 October each year. It is a week set aside to remember babies who died during pregnancy or shortly after birth. It also gives parents, families and friends a shared time to acknowledge loss and to offer support to one another.

The Wave of Light is how the week ends. People are invited to light a candle at 7pm on 15 October in memory of those babies. They are asked to keep it burning for at least an hour. Lit one by one in different homes, the candles are intended to create a wave of light across the evening.

William and Catherine's photograph arrived one minute after the hour began. The timing placed their tribute inside that collective act of remembrance. The image showed the lit wick and a warm glow against a dark background. It was quiet and direct, without additional commentary.

The couple often use their official social media accounts for brief messages of remembrance and support. These posts are personal messages issued in their own names. They carry no formal procedure and require no signature in the red box. Their meaning lies in the public act of joining in.

A separate report pointed to a personal contribution from the Princess of Wales. NBC Los Angeles described a rare personal note penned by Catherine for Baby Loss Awareness Week. The dated account of the evening centres on the candle photograph, its wording and its timing. Further detail of the note was not set out in that dated account.

For families taking part, the invitation was simple. Light a candle at home. Keep it burning for an hour. Share a photograph if you wish. On 15 October, the Prince and Princess of Wales did just that.
